Pte Bell, a member of the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders) was wounded three times, returning each time to the battalion. He rose to the rank of Sergeant being awarded the DCM (Distinguished Conduct Medal) for his actions at Amiens. He was later promoted to Lieutenant.
