A large yellowed paper certificate with a printed border frame in gold and green with various images of flora like maple leaves, two gold wax stamps of the seal of the city of Toronto, and signatures in ink of three individuals near the bottom: the Mayor – Frederick J Conboy, the City Clerk – J.W. Somers O.B.E., the City Treasurer and Keeper of the Civil Seal – G.A. Lascelles.

The text reads as follows, from top to bottom: “City of Toronto   Roll of Honour   In Memory of   Pte. Norman Nelvin Cubitt.   48 Highlanders of Canada

We, the Mayor and Members of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Toronto, hereby convey to the family of the above named Member of His Majesty’s forces the heartfelt sympathy of all our citizens in their sad bereavement through the loss of a loved one   Killed in Action – Italy.   This name has been inscribed on the Roll of Honour of the City of Toronto, to remain for all time as a record of the everlasting gratitude we owe to those who gave their lives that freedom and justice might prevail   We are proud of the valour of the one we now honour and by means of this token, we pay tribute to the glorious memory of one who has made the supreme sacrifice in the service of King and Country, and in the cause of humanity   “Their name liveth for evermore”   October, 3 1943″.
