Sculpture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - 1947 and 2012

Dual Portrait Sculpture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – 1947 and 2012

This portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II was donated to the 48th Highlanders Museum by the artist Charles Cardell Corbet to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Her Majesty’s appointment on 1 December 1947 as Colonel-in-Chief of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.

The dual portrait shows Her Majesty on the left as Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and on the right in a contemporary portrayal in 2012. The portrait celebrates the 65 years since Her Majesty, then Princess Elizabeth, accepted Her first appointment as Colonel-in-Chief and heralds the Diamond Jubilee of Her accession to the throne on 6 February 1952.

Charles Cardell Corbet, PPCPA, CGAM, BAMS, FIDEM, FA, FRSA is one of Canada’s most notable artists. His works can be found in permanent international collections including those of the Imperial War Museum in London, England, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam in The Netherlands and in Ottawa the Royal Canadian Navy Headquarters and the Supreme Court of Canada.
