100 Yr Anniversary at Vimy- photos

Photos of 100th Anniversary at Vimy Ridge – 2017

24 photos total, 10 of the Visitor Centre at Vimy Ridge in France for the 100th Anniversary ceremonies celebrating the Canadian victory at Vimy Ridge in 1917, and 14 photos of Highlanders killed at Vimy Ridge.

The Vimy Cross, placed on the battlefield by the 15th Battalion, 48th Highlanders, was transported from the 48th Highlanders Regimental Museum to Vimy to mark the 100th Anniversary and be part in the Ceremonies at which the Prime Minister attended. The Cross, believed to be one of as few as 5 of the original crosses still in existence, was the only original cross present at the Ceremonies. The cross was taken for a photograph at its original site on the battlefield and then placed in the new Visitor Centre for display for 9 months before being returned to the Regimental Museum.

In the photos, described here in alphabetical order as on the back of photos. (a) Visitor Centre: Richard Lindsay at headstones; Richard Lindsay with Vimy Cross; Richard Lindsay being interviewed for CBC; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with HCol Richard Read of the 48th and others in a trench; six photos of Vimy Cross in Vimy Education Centre.
