Militia General Orders from The Canada Gazette 17 Oct 1891 (48th Announcement)

A 8 inch by 13 inch paper framed in black wood with a 3.25 inch by 2 inch red box making a official public announcement that the government has authorized the formation of the 48th Highlanders in section 4 (red box) to increase of establishment of active militia.

It is interesting to note that, at this date, the Regiment had not received an official name. Lt Col John I. Davidson, Commanding Officer Designate, had suggest the name, The Queen’s Highlanders. This name name was not acceptable to the militia department. However, being a vacancy in the number 48, that number was given to the regiment, together with the word Highlanders.
