large volume of photocopies of the hand written letters during the war between Edward and his brothers, his parents and his grandmother.

Lt. Edward MacLachlan was the first 48th Highlander to be killed in action in WWII.  On 15 July 1943 at the age of 23, Lt MacLachlan was leading his carrier group towards the town of Caltagirone, Sicily when, after clearing the route of mines, his carrier backed off the road and was hit by a mine. Ed first served in the 2nd Battalion of the 48th Highlanders and officially enlisted on 22 December 1940 in Toronto.
