Large yellowed rectangle paper document printed with the coat of arms of Canada at centre top and the word “CANADA” below it and two circular black stamps in the top left and right corners, the left stamp reads: “THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF INFANTRY TORONTO No T.4689 Date 24/6/38”, and the right stamp reads: “Department of National Defence Adjutant General’s Branch Militia Service Ottawa, Canada PROMULGATED MILITIA ORDER No. 3 0 6 1938”. The document is a form with various spaces left out between words with long dotted lines for filling in, and have been printed on likely via a typewriter, and reads from top to bottom: “CERTIFICATE OF MILITARY QUALIFICATIONS ACTIVE MILITIA OF CANADA NATURE OF QUALIFICATION INFANTRY (RIFLE) This is to Certify that 2nd Lieutenant A.J.Miller Corps 48th Highlanders of Canada has attended the required Part II Course held at Niagara Camp, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario from 30th May, 1938 to 11th June, 1938 and has qualified as in Lieutenant. NOTE-This Certificate is registered at Headquarters Canada, under No. 88628 D M Leverin Lt. Colonel for Adjutant-General G Hodson Major, Commandant, Camp School of Infantry and Machine Guns”. In the bottom left is printed a code marker for this form document: “M.F.B. 1417 10M–8.33 H.Q. 1772–39-1522”. The document certifies that Lt A. J. Miller joined the course as a 2nd Lieutenant and has successfully completed the course and is now promoted to Lieutenant rank.
On the back of the document are two sets of hand-written notes done with pencil reading: “96 Berkshire Par(?) Aar(?) 5194” and “Tuesday Nov. 8th Gudge(?) 48th” .
