Pamphlet for Overseas Service 19146signed by C.W. Darling, Lieut.Col.

Letter, Col Darling requesting volunteers-1916

Men of the 48th Regiment (Highlanders)

As Major-General Logie  explained to you recently,-this Regiment has again been requested to furnish more men for Overseas Service, as well as a Battalion for Service in the Canadian Defence Force, to be known as –

The 48th Highlanders’ Service Battalion, C.D.F.

This Regiment, up to the present, has done magnificent work in recruiting Officers, N.C.O.’s and Men for Overseas Service. In addition to the three C.E.F. Battalions, viz., the 15th, 92nd and 134th, drafts have been raised for the following Overseas units.-

The Pictou Highlanders, Nova Scotia

19th Battalion

35th ” ”

58th ” ”

74th ” ”

95th ” ”

In fact there is hardly any branch of the Service in which some members of the 48th will not be found.

We have a proud record to uphold and live up to, and have yet to fall down on any request made by the G.O.C. this District.

Owing to the fact that, within a short time this district will be without C.E.F. Corps-it is imperative that every eligible man, not  only in this Regiment, but in Toronto, should immediately volunteer for Service in the Canadian Defence Force.

It is highly necessary that the new C.E.F. Draft from this Regiment should be recruited at the earliest possible date, and I have the absolute assurance of the G.O.C. that all men recruited for this draft will re-enforce the Battalions already send forward by this Regiment.

I sincerely trust that all of you will give this matter conscientious and serious thought, and that you will not forget the duty and obligations that rests upon you to support those who have gone before.

C.W. Darling, Lieut.-Col.

Commanding 48th Regiment (Highlanders)
