Following Operation Cannonshot in April 1945 in which the 48th Highlanders crossed the Ijssel River near Wilp, advanced to Twello in Phase 1, then to the liberation of Apeldoorn in Phase 2 1995, the 48th Highlanders killed in that action were buried on the dyke at the town of Wilp. LCol George was a company commander in that operation and after returning to Canada became the Commanding Officer of the home battalion. The graves were moved subsequently to the Holten Cemetery near Apeldoorn. P1112
