LCol M. E. George placing marker where 19 48th Highlanders, including the Commanding Officer, LCol Mackenzie, were buried in April 1945 after the liberation of Apeldoorn, Holland as part of Operation Cannonshot. The location is on the dyke of the Ijssel River at the town of Wilp, where the 1st Battalion after crossing the river pivoted to advance towards Twello. LCol MacKenzie was killed just outside Wilp.
