Pewter drinking mug shaped trophy with transparent glass bottom, on side is etched in words reading from top to bottom: “1905 THE MAJOR A.E. GOODERHAM TROPHY O.I.B.L. WON BY 48TH HIGHLANDERS LIEUT.A.A.MILLER”.
“O.I.B.L.” stands for Officer’s Indoor Baseball League, which was founded by Major J.A. Currie, also of the 48th Highlanders and to be LCol taking the battalion overseas in 1914, in 1901 in Toronto as the Military Indoor Baseball League, which included teams from the other regiments in the city. The first place prize on creation of the league was a silver cup as a trophy gifted by LCol Currie and became the property of the team to win the league three times. Prior in 1900, the Queen’s Own Rifle attempted to form a regimental baseball league but failed, partly owing to a lack of a trophy to play for.
