Certificate number 9267 issued by Military District 2 to 800114 Pte. C. Hughes, 134th Battalion, CEF  following the completion of a school of instruction at Niagara-on-the-Lake, 4 July 1916 and qualifying Pte Hughes for the rank of Corporal. Hughes was transferred once in England to the 4th Battalion and suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh in the last 100 days of the war.
