Three Sony DVD-R discs in plastic cases with white sticker labels on the cover of all three of the cases reading CBC Radio-Canada V-E Day 70th ANNIVERSARY, with a different subtitle on each reading: “LIVE SPECIAL, MANSBRIDGE VETERANS, HOLTEN”. Each disc has a recording of a part of CBC TV’s multi-hour broadcast of the V-E Day 70th ANNIVERSARY event in 2015. The three discs are in a large white envelope with the logo and name of CBC Radio-Canada in the top left corner. The disc labelled MANSBRIDGE VETERANS features an opening segment narrated by Peter Mansbridge about the liberation of Netherlands and interviews with veterans, the disc labelled HOLTEN features coverage of the ceremonies at the Canadian War Cemetery at Holten, Netherlands mainly presented by Heather Hiscox, the disc labelled LIVE SPECIAL features coverage of the parade in Apeldoorn with commentary by Peter Mansbridge.
The Dutch hold ceremonies, parades and church services every 5 years to mark and celebrate the liberation of The Netherlands by the Canadians in April 1945. The Live Special in Apeldoorn is a 12 minute presentation by Peter Mansbridge for CBC television news. It features the 48th Highlanders liberation of Apeldoorn and uses the letters and photographs of Major George Beal to personalize the role of Canadians. Major Beal commanded Able Company during Operation Cannonshot for the liberation of Apeldoorn, being awarded the Military Cross for his leadership on the battlefield.
