A large circular sterling silver platter gifted to LCol. G.M. Malone, at the time Captain, as a wedding gift with etching in the centre of the platter of an image of the 48th Highlanders’ buckle badge style seal and text below it reading: “PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN GERALD MORPHY MALONE, M.C. on The occasion of his marriage on April, 28th 1928. by HIS Brother Officers OF THE 48TH HIGHLANDERS OF CANADA” . Around the full edge of the platter is attached a trim of metal beads in a strip, though a section of it has broken off. Stamped on the back of the plate near the edge is the logo of the maker reading: “STANDARD ‘S’ C INTERNATIONAL S. CO.”, and the word: “STERLING”. Standard Silver Co. Ltd was a Toronto based silver company of renown during the 1800s and early 1900s, and was part of the larger International Silver Co., based in Meriden, CT, USA; nicknamed ‘Silver City’.
