Top side of balmoral hat likely belonging to an officer named Malone, featuring red pompom, called tourri.

Balmoral – Malone 698

A khaki balmoral headdress with red pompom, called tourri, and attached to the front via a pin on the inside is a square patch of Davidson pattern tartan with a buckle belt style badge of the 48th Highlanders with a red centre backing.

On the inside of the balmoral is a stitched in a rectangular patch of fabric with information printed on it from the maker reading: “ASCOT UNIFORMS   www.ascotuniforms.com   SIZE   7  3/8   APR 2007   ORDER #13417   100% WOOL”, and written at the bottom with pencil is “MALONE 698”. A large metal safety pin is attached through the fabric patch and the balmoral, and above these are stitched in a diamond-shaped patch of clear plastic as a cover.

Note: The balmoral is of more recent make while the cap badge is older from WW1, likely belonging to Lt Col GM Malone, MC VD  who was with the 134th Battalion in England then the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders) in France and became Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion in Toronto from 1940 to 1943.
