“Contact” –  These men of the lead company of 48th Highlanders of Canada, squat in the middle of this street leading into Rimini and report their safe arrival to their main unit via wireless. (Canadian Army Overseas Photo) 21  Sep 1944. The Highlanders are on the south side of the only bridge left standing as the Germans retreated out of Rimini. The Germans had an agreement with the Canadians to leave the historic Ponte di Tiherio, completed by Tiberius in 27 B. C.
