134th Tunic

134th Battalion Tunic

The 134th (48th Highlanders) Battalion, CEF was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War. Based in Toronto, Ontario, the 48th Highlanders began recruiting a third battalion, the 134th Battalion, in late 1915 in that city. The battalion was designated to be a combat battalion for a 5th Canadian Division which was being planned. The Battalion, 1200 strong, sailed to England in August 1916. Two companies reinforced the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders). When the army decided that it did not require a 5th Division, the 134th battalion was demobilized on 12 February 1918 and the men sent to a variety of units and services. The 134th (48th Highlanders) Battalion, CEF had one Officer Commanding: Lieut-Col. A. A. Miller.
